Now that I've introduced the topic of this blog and my future media product, I would say that it's about I introduce myself.

Hi! My name is Devin. I have a very wide range of interests, many of which I have been exploring throughout my high-school years. For example, I've been a part of a biomedical program for 3 years so far, an experience I'm glad to have because it has shown me how interested I am in the medical field. Additionally, I have taken many Cambridge classes that have been extremely enjoyable, as well as widened my perspective on the world. These include Travel and Tourism, Environmental Management, Psychology, and English. Taking these classes has really helped me explore my interests and decide what I would like to do in the future.

Speaking of, I am currently most interested in the medical field as a future career path. This is because I love helping people and the human body has always interested me. I also have many family members that have worked in the medical field, acting as motivators in my efforts to join them. However, I still like to keep my options open. That's why this school year I'm taking a diverse set of classes, as well as joining a few new clubs.

As for the reason I'm taking this Media Studies class, one of the main reasons is to expand my options and interests. As previously stated, exploring many future career paths is one of my main goals in high school. Since I have some interest in reaching large audiences through media, this course is a no brainer for me to explore that career option.

The image on the left shows how I currently feel about this class. I am both very excited and extremely nervous about what the future holds.

Reflection on the Syllabus

Welcome back to my blog! In this post, I'll be focusing on the syllabus for this course and what I will have to do. This is my first time ever creating a creative blog. It's also my very first time putting together a professional looking magazine. Because of this, I am very inexperienced in the skills necessary to accomplish this end goal, as well as being unknowledgeable in the elements that would be necessary to make a good media product. However, I believe that the skills I have in researching topics, communicating ideas, and my ability to learn quickly will be very valuable in making both the blog and the magazine.

After reviewing the syllabus, three things that I'm looking forward to are...

 • greatly improving my creativity and visual design skills

 • learning how to communicate with a wider audience through different forms of media, specifically a magazine

 • and getting to reflect on my work throughout this blog to see the progress I've made

Three things that I'm nervous about are... 

 • the many things I have to learn in the near future and the mistakes I will likely make along the way

 • making a magazine that is creative enough to reach Cambridge standards and expectations

 • and the subtle variations in literary technique that go into making a magazine

Regardless, I'm still looking forward to this course and all that comes with it. I hope that this course will help me improve my skills in communicating and conveying ideas to larger audiences. By the end of this course, I should be able to accomplish this goal, as well as have an understanding of the many aspects that go into producing different forms of media.

General Introduction

Hello!
My name is Devin and this is the introduction to my blog for the AICE Media Studies class. I will use this blog to detail the steps I take to reach my end goal for this class, developing a media product. This blog will be separated into 5 types of blog posts: introduction, research, planning, production, and reflection. This is for the purpose of simplifying my blog and making the process easier to follow. For my media product, I've chosen to create a magazine. This magazine will include a cover page, a table of contents, and a double-page spread. It will also have at least 4 original photos.

While I'm creating my media product, I'll also be working with a group of classmates. Even though we wont directly work on each others magazines, we can still help each other by sharing ideas and developing new skills together. I personally hope to develop my research skills, my understanding of digital art and design, and being more creative. I will also apply the skills that I already know to help create the best magazine possible. Some of these skills are my good communication skills, good teamwork skills, and being detail oriented.

  Blog Aims

• In a group with up to 4 people, we will brainstorm ideas for the focus of our magazine. Even though we will share ideas, we will each have our own individual magazines centered around this focus. I'll use not only my own ideas, but also the opinions of my team to make the best magazine possible.

• I will research the topics I will talk about in my magazine and decide how to structure it. All the pictures I put into the magazine are going to be original and there will be at least 4 of them.

• Making preliminary work will also be a top priority to see what needs work and what I will have to change. This preliminary work will help me reflect on the improvements I've made throughout my time making the project.

• Reflecting on my work throughout the year will also help me see where I started and the progress I've made.
